BIOGRAPHY

"Kaiju Daisenso" … Japanese for "Giant Monster Battle." It is from this notion of a great clash of evils that THE MONSTER PROJECT takes its inspiration: the terrifying against the horrible, the wicked versus the cruel, the gargantuan opposite the colossal.

An evolutionary offshoot of the New York City progressive art-rock collective with influences ranging from Black Sabbath to Bernard Herrmann, the Project presents creative but faithful rock arrangements of classic monster movie scores. The septet performed several times in 2005 and 2006 before dissolving, having accomplished what they set out to do, but not before recording their entire répertoire. That full-length album, over 65 minutes of monstrous music, is now available at Bandcamp. Samples are available here.

Listen to an interview with Adam Alexander regarding the story behind The Monster Project on KaijuCast.com, a podcast dedicated to Godzilla and all his rubber-suited foes.

The project was assembled from some of the most creative and skilled musicians in NYC's struggling progressive music scene:

Adam Alexander bass / project leader
Jeff Aldrich guitar
Christopher Carroll percussion / sound fx
John Celentano drums
Eric Hertenstein keyboards / banjo
Kelly Pratt trumpet / flügelhorn
Dave Ruder clarinet

Celentano and Alexander are half of Brompton's Cocktail.
Aldrich and Hertenstein lead The Benzene Ring.
Alexander, Carroll and Pratt are agents of The Invincible Doctor Psyclops Invasion.
You can keep track of Pratt's numerous projects on his MySpace page.
You can also hear Ruder's weird tunes on his MySpace page.
